COLLINS FRENCH DICTIONARY

Book Review by: SM THOMPSON

Original Author: Pierre-Henri Cousin
This French dictionary is an excellent asset to any classroom in Europe or America as it
gives a great /breakdown/
of words, abbreviations, phrases in two languages.
The culture link is well documented and this little dictionary has become the
best-selling mini dictionary ; for example, you can pop it into your briefcase
and it is as light as a feather.
It refers often to the American English and obviously British English is implied in the
translations contained therein.
I find it useful too in the matter of quick and handy solutions to rather long newspapers in French or indeed English; and you can quickly find the word or equivalent without spending too much of your
valuable time pouring over every single page with a determined notion to
get this translation perfect in double quick time!
It is a useful addition to your home library as many films these days have French phases in the English world of Media and Film; for example, I heard a lady poet not long ago, start her every sentence with a French word; the rule used to be that English was to be strictly pronounced and that
when public speaking stick to a clear line for your audience and dont confuse meanings in the mind of the listerer. However, the modern public speaker still can rely on this rule being applied in this dictionary! I recommend it as / excellent/
