This
dream symbol reference
book is very complete. The authors have researched both ancient and modern sources in many languages and from many cultures in order to produce this alphabetical wonder of interpretation. There is a short introduction on the subject of dreaming, including such examples as Kekule''s discovery of the cyclic nature of most organic (carbon) compounds from a dream wherein he saw a snake swallowing its own tail; this is considered to be THE most important discovery in modern organic chemistry. The authors also address the problem of relative dream frequency and research thereon. Many people do not remember their dreams (or have only fragmentary memories) and so believe they do not dream at all. This is NOT true of anyone so far tested. By observing various
physiological signs and signals, especially
rem (rapid eye movement), while people sleep, and awakening them then, all have reported that they were dreaming, even those who claimed they never dreamed at all. The authors also distinguish clearly between
precognitive dreaming and the more ordinary kind, influenced by various external stimuli, or physical and/or physiological or certain psychological conditions. They detail the optimum or most likely times for this (precognitive) type of dreaming as well. There follow hundreds of symbols with their interpretations gleaned from both ancient and modern sources. The one thing you must remember in dream
interpretation is that it is a very personal thing, and while these dream symbol definitions can be helpful and even eerily appropriate, ultimately it is YOUR dream and only YOU can define or understand what it means for you. This book concentrates PRIMARILY on precognitive dreams and dreaming, and the dream symbols and interpretations are slanted in this direction and to this purpose, though they can also be used to unlock the keys of your own understanding on an unconscious, especially dreaming, level.
