Cloud

Book Summary by: esmieang

Original Author: World Book,Inc
Cloud is a mass of water droplets or tiny ice crystals that floats in the air.
Types of Clouds:they were named according
to their appearance
Cumulus clouds- pile=up masses of white clouds
Cirrus clouds- curly looking
Stratus- appears as sheets or layers
How they were formed?
They were from water that evaporated from lakes, river, oceans, moists from soil and plants, thus it is called water vapor. It expands and cools as it rises into the air .When the temperature drops, water vapor condenses (or turned to liquid) into tiny water droplets.Condensation nuclei becomes center of the droplets. They are tiny salt particles.
If the temperature becomes very cold, it will not cause the water vapor to condense.Instead the water vapor undergoes sublimation. It means, it becomes ice.In order for it to occur, sublimation nuclei must be present.
Between temperature 0' to -40'C, both water droplets and ice particles are present. No freezing occurs at 0'C.They reamin liquid at -40"C.
Rain or snow forms when water evaporates from liquid droplets and freezes on an ice crystal.
