Transportation contributes to the economic, industrial, social, cultural development of any country. Transportation is vital for the economic development.
The adequacy of transportation system of a country indicates its economic and social development

Social Effects:
 
Progress follows the lines of the transportation. Population follows the lines of the transportation. Population has   always settled along river banks, road sides etc. in the present concept of transportation network this kind of ribbon development is greatly discouraged. The various social effects of transportation are as follows:
1.     Sectionalism
2.     Concentration of the community
3.     Well being of the community
4.     Aspect of safety, law and order
