I. The Notion Of Intercultural Communication:
1. Communication between Cultures as a Social Phenomenon:
Intercultural Communication is not a new thing lately just happen.Long-going communication between cultures since individuals that different cultures meet and interact.Only the "new" in this case is the systematic about what would happen if the interaction is taking place on individuals who have different cultural backgrounds.Traditionally,intercultural communication occurs only within the scope of the community is very small, which is the minority.
2. The Need for Communication Between Cultures are studied:
The development of the world today are more and more toward on what is referred to as a Global Village, with its implications meetings and relations are increasing cause interest and awareness of the necessity of studying the problems of intercultural communication.From an assortment of problems appeared, people started to realize that the ways to connect in intercultural contexts is not as easy or as simple as previously thought.
based on the scope of the problem, then spare consciousness can be divided in:
a. International Awareness:
Fusion of mobility increased, modern communications technology, as well as awareness of the world's problems to be dealt with together, it appears that radically improve the relations between culture, which was constrained by time and distance of space.With the reduced communication barriers, then the world as if pressed on the need to achieve the mutual understanding between sesame mankind.
b. Domestic Awareness:
Along with changes in the international world, a kind of cultural changes occurred in the country.The need to understand and interact with groups sub-culture so it becomes a pusher doing the study of intercultural communication.In Indonesia alone, the number of the tribes with different languages and dialects for each, its values, philosophy-philosophy of pragmatism, and others, not impossible would open the possibility of the occurrence of misunderstanding and even to physical conflict.
c. Personal Awareness:
There are several advantages that can be by individuals from the study of Intercultural Communication:
feeling happy and satisfied in finding something new, in this culture of other people who have never known or realized before.
knowledge of Intercultural Communication can help to avoid communication problems.
many work opportunities are open to the field of Intercultural Communication.
provide opportunities for able to perceive and understand oneself.
communication between Cultures can be considered an area of study, because according to Sitaram (Saral, 1979: 396) have met the requirements of a branch of Science:
There should be adequate enough libraries like scientists and students to use as subjects and references.
the existence of broad theoretical sense as a strong foundation for study in the field.
There should be more than one way to approach to the application of the theory in everyday life.
should be sufficiently broad scope for the scientist to research and develop the theory.
should allow to teach skills in the practitioners who typically do not want to care the theoretical aspects of their training program.
at the level of graduate (after the baccalaureate), should make it possible for students to specialise in one of the aspects of the field.
graduate education in height should be able to get a job based on their education and training.
the need to learn those fields to be recognized by institutions, organizations and corporate governance.
the study of communication, according to the results of the meeting of International Communication

a. Interpersonal Communication
b. Mass Communication
c. organizational communication
d. political communications
e. Intercultural Communication
f. Health Communication
g. Communication Education
h. information system
3. Definitions (Heresy) Intercultural Communication:
The principal theme is intercultural Communication Studies differentiate from other communication studies is a degree of difference background experience relative between the komunikatornya, caused by cultural differences.The cultural differences between the principals of communication as well as other differences such as the individual's personality, age, physical appearance, being the problems inherent in the process of human communication.
