If questions like ""Who has taken second place in more tournaments than anybody else on the PGA Tour?" or "What is the worst score ever taken on a single hole?", peak your interest, then this is the book for you. As the title suggests, the book is stocked full of golf knowlege and history that any golf enthusiast would enjoy. This book is an extremely fun and easy read. A must have for any avid golf player / watcher, the book is filled with tons of entertaining tid-bits, some serious and some comical. This is the kind of book you can pick up for five minutes and read a few pages, or sit down and read the whole thing in one sitting.
The book is divided up into 14 different chapters, including chapters on the Masters, British and US Open, PGA Tour, Senior Tour, etc. The chapters are then broken down into leasts, mosts, nevers, etc. As a casual golf watcher, I was surprised by how much I didn't know about the game. You will also be shocked by how FEW times the name "Tiger Woods" shows up in the text. This book will provide you with loads of obscure, yet interesting, golf facts and trivia to use to impress your buddies while you are out on links.
The author of the book is a veteran golf journalist who has received the PGA's Lifetime Achievement Award, in 2005. The author also mentions in the book that he served on the committee that reduced Sam Snead's record eighty three victories on the PGA Tour down to eighty two, so it is apparent that he has been around the game for a long time. Mr. Barkow does an excellent job of conveying tons of statistics, useless trivia, and records in an entertaining fashion that makes you want to continue on to the next fact. I often found myself saying "I will read one more and then its time to put it down", only to continue on to read ten more factoids.
