The Pioneer Woman Cooks, Food From My Frontier

Book Review   by:FarmhouseWife     Original Author: Ree Drummond
ª

The Pioneer Woman Cooks, Food From My Frontier by Ree Drummond is as much a lifestyle book as it is a cookbook. Ree Drummond and her husband, Ladd, own and run a working cattle and horse ranch in Oklahoma. Ree also writes a popular blog on the internet also titled The Pioneer Woman. Living so far from a town with no pizza delivery or fast food available, Ree had to learn to cook. With much trial and error she did learn to cook and cook well. Most of her recipes are hardy which is fitting since she has to cook for hard working cowboys and growing children.

There are numerous photos of the Drummond family that includes four children, and the ranch they live on. Each photo has a comment; some humorous, some sweet, some loving, all add to the interest of the book. I get the idea that these are people who work hard but enjoy the work and the lifestyle.

The recipes include items such as: Cowboy Quiche, His/Her Burgers, Whiskey-Mustard Meatballs, French Onion Soup, Breakfast Bread Pudding, Chicken Apricot Panini, Knock You Naked Brownies, Pork Chops with Apples and Grits, many Southwest type recipes, and much, much more. The book has 293 pages including the index.

This is a fun read and the recipes are interesting and doable for the average cook.
