Delta of Venus is truly Anais Nin at her finest in the erotic arena. Her
erotica in my humble opinion is some of her best work. Her writing is effortless and it practically sings with intensity and yet at the same time, is straightforward and honest. Some of it is shocking and she likes to break rules but it is also full of emotion and is a page-turning sizzler! She’s a master at writing about sex- whether it is told outright or implied. We know what’s happening in the scenes she unfolds yet there is also some mystery there. But the undeniable truth is that we are turned on with each scintillating line.
I love reading her work. Lines like, “He crouched over her like a giant cat, and his penis went into her. He gave Mathilde what he would not give his mistress. His weight finally made her sink down and sprawl on the rug. He raised her ass with his two hands and fell on her again and again.” Powerful prose indeed.
Nin’s erotica never goes out of style. Even by today’s standards her
work and the images it conjures up are
hot (red hot). This
book provides a story for every erotic connoisseur- from a Hungarian adventurer who seduces wealthy women and then takes their money, to a veiled
woman who chooses complete strangers from restaurants for sexcapades to a Parisian hatmaker named Mathilde who is a very naughty woman indeed, to a sexual awakening one summer in Mallorca. This book is sure to please with its collection of fifteen lush, magical stories taken from the wild, untamed imagination of Nin. It’s a must read for anyone who wants to enter the world of desire, and stay there for a while.
Her erotica is some of the best ever written. Want to explore your sexuality further? Then get ready for the ride of a lifetime!
Notes- A movie by the same name was made by Zalman King in 1994. It is loosely based on Nin’s work, “Delta of Venus.”
