“U.S. Shoppers
Face a Frugal Future,” “Employers slash 80,000 Jobs, the most in
5 years,” “Gasoline prices hit record high, and are poised to rise
further”: headlines such as these, are common place in today's
American culture. We usually just pass by them and continue on our
search for “the best deal” or in many cases our next job.
However, all of the head lines, I listed above were found on the
front of the, April 5th 2008 edition of the Columbian News
Paper's Business section. So I started to read on; I was looking for
common denominators, in people's behavior in relation to each
articles.
As I read through
the articles, I did find that in one way or another, the one factor
that the articles have in common is Human Greed. You see if mankind
was to truly live according to Natural Law, and love our neighbors as
Jesus commanded, there would be no reason for inflated gas prices or
money, for that matter. For if we truly loved our neighbors, our
first objective would not be to see to our own personal needs and
desires; but rather, would be to tend to our brothers needs first. If
every one was to do this with out a need for compensation, our own
personal needs would also be met by virtue of the act. In other
words, we would do away with a need for money and our culture would
become self sustaining.
As it stands, our
economy is centered around the commodities which the globule economic
landscape sees a value in. However, if we could soften our hearts and
do away with our selfishness: “80,000 jobs” would not be lost,
and U.S. Shoppers would not have to become so frugal. Of course we
would still be expected to work but if we viewed the world as family,
we would probable do things for the good of our with out a need for
personal gain.
What I am speaking
of may sound a bit Idealistic, but that is who I am. On the other
hand, I am talking about the New Jerusalem (God's kingdom here on
Earth). This Utopian society is spoken of in Plato's Republic,
as well as the Revelation of John. It has been a dream shared
by many in different point of human history it has been tried and
failed time and time again. But only because of the freewill problem.
For the men who
tried it, did not know God, and therefore could not understand God's
natural law. But Aman I tell you, the Lord well:

create new heavens and a new earth; the things of the past shall not
be remembered or come to mind. Instead, there shall always be
rejoicing and happiness in what ; for
create Jerusalem to be a joy and its people to be a delight;
will rejoice in Jerusalem and exult people. <...> They shall
live in the houses they build, and eat the fruit of the vineyards
they plant; the shall not build house for others to live in, or plant
for others to eat.(NAB, Isaiah, 65:17-22).
The word says
that no man shall be subordinate to another in the New Jerusalem.
Every one will do there share and they will be happy about it. The
reason the socialist society does not work is because no matter how
good the founders intentions may have been the human imperfection
will come to surface if God himself was not the inspiration. However,
the Bible does imply that one day Plato's Republic will become a
reality and man will finally know peace on earth.
