A King and a Queen of a far away land had
seven sons but no daughters and how they longed for one. One day they did have a baby girl but the baby was sickly and weak. The father told the brothers to fetch some water from the well for her baptism but they dropped the jug down the well. The King
turned irritated and boomed “Those lazy boys have probably forgotten their task and went off playing a game. I wish they turned into
ravens,” no sooner he had said that there was a
sound of
beating wings up above them. There was sorrow about the loos of the
princes but greater joy of the beautiful princess who had grown strong and fine-looking in their absence. She had secretly set off to find them and had to slice off her little finger just to enter the raven prince’s homes. When the princes saw her they transformed back to humans and were overjoyed. I like the part when as soon as the King had spoken - there was the sound of beating wings over their heads. I would rate this story 9/ 10 and I think primary school children would enjoy it.
