Fiction is a term used to describe short stories and novels.
Drama is a term used to describe plays put on stage.
Formally, there is only one type of fiction. It is necessary, that that virtue must be seen to validate itself by helping
hero succeed with it at last
With drama, there are suppossedly only 2 main types. They are TRAGEDY and COMEDY.
In fiction, we present only the good virtue of the hero. But with drama, the hero has both admirable as well as flaws that necessarily cause his downfall.
So a
TRAGIC HERO has a TRAGIC
flaw that leads to his TRAGIC FALL.
A COMIC HERO has a COMIC FLAW that ridicules him each time it is teste
In such traditional societies, kings and princes were admired and loved. They always had some heroic qualities or history behind them.
But a personal flaw is personal and human. In the case of Shakespeare''s Macbeth, we see a great army general driven to his death by blind or
foolish ambition.
In the case of Shakespeare''s Othello, we see a great black general who is driven to his death by his foolish sense of jealousy over a woman.
As we can see a tragic hero must have a pitiable flaw but he must be equally very great so that a TRAGIC FALL is like falling from the sky to ther hard ground. And that is why we feel sorry for his folly which must be so compe;lling as seeming like his destiny. And so we weep for him at last. Tragic flaws are many-GULLIBILITY, IMPATIENCE.,COVETOUSNESS.
COMIC FLAWS are generally bad manners or attidudes which are found unacceptable by the majority at a place. They are cultural because people grouped at one place may do things in one way , and may think the minority who do things in a different way , such as , even the way they pronounce words or dress should be picked on as humour.Sometimes, it could be genuine flaws like phoniness, timidity, shyness, etc.
like Romeo and Juliet whose death was caused by the foolish rivalry between two ancient families and the youth''s own foolish love. Ihave been thinking it is ideal love which was the tragic hero which was unthinkingly tested and which failed.
PLAN FOR ROMEO AND JULIET
Romeo hasa girl he was getting redy to marry.
He met this Juliet he had never seen before at ther girls party he was not supposed to attend
They fell in love before they saw their faces < by the nature of the dance they were performing>
Romeo immediately changed his mind about his former girl foolishly
A member of Juliets famliy found out and wanted to fight Romeo
Romeo lost his temper after the killing of his best friend who was only trying to intervene
He killed that Juliet''s cousin
He was banished from the town
Bur before he left a
priest had married them secretly
The priest had recalled Romeo to come for his wife by lying to the whole world that Juliet was dead in order to avoid a double wedding to another prince whom of course Juliet didnt want to marry but was being forced by his mother
The priest too had committed a crime with the couple on account of the secret marriage and the bigamy
Juliet was buried as a hoax and Romeo was sent for by the priest
The message was he was to see the priest on arrival
He went straight to the cemetry where his woman was sleeping under a potion
He killed himself and lied beside her
The woman woke up and found his Romeo dead
She also killed herself
As you can see , from the scene where Juliet''s cousin began his bluff against Romeo, every step involved
actionThe term ''drama'' really means ''action''. Without action you dont have a play. Action comes only from conflict. Conflict makes the drama move stepwise and forward.
Action involves facial expressio or body movement. Facial action includes anything from laughing, weeping, winking the eye, or some mischievous or cynical expressiony language goes from fist fighting, swearing , running, bending, kneeling, ect.Try rewriting Romeo and Juliet or adapt it in which case everything will be different except the foolish love and the foolish rivalry between the two families. Some have done it , I suppose, even better that Shakespeare did it
In a comedy, the comic flaw must be given a lot of opportunity to be ridiculed at each time the comic hero makes that mistake. Acommon definition of comedy is '' a drama that ends happily ''. In a real comedy you laugh and throw yourself on the ground from strat to finish. It is a difficult technique . Usually , people dont die in comedies not even animals because some members of the audience may get hooked to them in a special way
Make sure all conflicts are resolved before the sdtory ends.because some members may go home feeling the drama has not really fi ished . They may be especially intersted in the way that bit would turn out in the end.
