Book Review   by:VijaiKSharma     Original Author: APJ Abdul Kalam

Achievements of a nation depend a lot on its people, especially on utilizing the untapped potential of youth, who have the creativity in various areas for development. In India we have talented people, many natural resources, plans and constructive ideas. We need entrepreneurship, encouragement, motivation, vision, positive attitude and realization of dreams. We can utilize our energies and initiatives, and get over the poverty, with removal of obstacles and better coordination. In nine Chapters of this book the author discusses about peace, interactions with Indian children, saints, seers, scientists and thinkers etc. and provides the information obtained from different people.   As per Chapter one, spirituality and education should be integrated, and our inner energies should be used for creativity.  Events should be converted into opportunities. We should not cause sufferings to others. There should be peace, and not conflicts or confrontations. We should have the courage to express difference of opinion, in the overall interest of the country. We should face, manage and learn from failures, and not get bogged down. According to Chapter two, the young of the country need role models at various stages in their life, for guidance  and inspiration, for contributing for making a prosperous and strong country, for a life of happiness, pleasure, abundance and free expression.  In the initial stages, parents and the elementary school teachers are the role models, but for higher age children, the national leaders having quality and integrity in various fields, are the role models. Education should be for the growth of the country. Young should dream to make high achievements. Discussion in Chapter 3 is about the importance of vision and visionaries, for involving the people in mission driven programmes for the development of the country. The nation is bigger than individuals. Leadership in various fields should convince the political leadership. Once a decision is taken, everybody in the organization should work towards it. Chapter 4 provides the details of author’s discussions with the saints and seers. We have spiritual strength and unity in diversity. We must have broad outlook, be cautious of our ego and learn from the teachings of saints. We should have an integrated approach, by combining Science and Spirituality, so as to remove poverty and transform human life. We should have dream, commitment, hard work and spiritual strength, in spite of failures. Chapter 5 states that India has many faiths and differences. But with is a clear vision at national level, we should all work united for our success. Our patriotism should be above everything. We need strength, since it derives respect. We need visionary leadership so that all people come together, for making a prosperous and harmonious India.  As per Chapter 6, we should have a society of knowledge power, with improved quality of life. Knowledge comes through education and learning skills. It is necessary for performance, output, progress, power and prosperity, both in urban and rural areas. According to Chapter 7, we should put all forces together to implement our integrated programmes rapidly as a mission, with no obstructions in the path of progress. Areas are agriculture, food processing, power, education, health care, information technology and strategic sector. Wealth needs to be generated and also protected. Also there should be transparency. As per Chapter 8, we have to make development through creativity of the young persons, Centre-State coordination, education system and change of mind-set etc. We are poor, even though we have vast resources and wealth. We must change this position by value addition. Intensive partnership leads to faster development at lower cost. Chapter 9 states that imagination is necessary for creativity. We need to have the spirit of enterprise, and convert raw materials into products having markets. Entire country should share the vision. Funds for development must be properly channelized. Results of Science and technology should reach the masses. As per epilogue we should not remain contented.  We should give opportunities and encouragement to all persons for their development; promote team spirit and “can do” attitude, for better contribution to the country.
The central theme of the book is motivating, inspiring and energizing the youth of India for putting their all possible efforts and power, for fast development say by 2020, to transform India into a developed nation, along with health, education, peace, prosperity and quality life. The themes and ideas which struck the author during his discussions with children, saints and teachers etc., have been taken up in this book. It discusses the points which we are missing, for achieving developed status and good life. Written in a simple language, easy to understand and interesting style, the book contains lot of ideas and thoughts. Although the book is primarily addressed to the young persons, it is also useful for all those people in general, who love India,
