The Way In: Journal Writing for Self-Discovery

Book Review   by:CatherineGallagher     Original Author: Rita D. Jacobs

This book is an encouragement to begin, begin again, or expand your
journal-keeping. The book is written in three (3) sections. The first
section is an historical overview; the second, about your own journal
(including various types of special journals [e.g. travel journals,
project journals, special-event and transition journals, and so on]).
The third section gives a number of exercises and suggestions for
deepening, extending, and using your own insights in writing.

This book gives new insights about journalizing, and a number of
exercises and suggestions to create the circumstances and inspiration
for using or extending yours more effectively, and deeply. As a way of
self-knowledge, the journal is unexcelled. As a way of preserving the
past, and the present, and creating the future you desire, it is a tool
and reference you will never regret having and using.

One of the aspects she mentions in passing, is the HEALING function and
effect of journalizing. It is perhaps the greatest gift, along with
growth and self-knowledge, that this practice has to offer us.
