This useful and helpful guide is for adult learners attending college. From returning students, to first time college students, this guide is filled with information that will assist with any situation a student may encounter. If you cant find it here, the authors point you in the right direction to find it. There are questions, action review checklists, and websites to help you along the way. There is even a section to help you choose the best program for you, and how to find the right person to contact for further assistance to save time. The differences between online learning, distance learning, and campus learning are detailed so the learner can decide which one will work best them. There is a chapter for everything from financial aid and where to apply, to other funding available for students. There is information on how to take lecture notes and how to organize your time and notebooks. Information is also included on how to study using effective study methods, how to take different types of tests and how to prepare for tests so you feel confident, less stressed, and score higher. The adult learner is shown how to reach study goals, how to reward yourself, and how to stop yourself from studying too much.
A section on critical thinking shows the student how to research and write papers that get top grades, how to influence instructors, and how to deal with situations where the student's learning style may conflict with the the instructor's teaching style. Because most adult students work full or part time and have families, there is a chapter on how to balance school with work, and family. A chapter is dedicated to handling pressure, reducing stress, bouncing back from set-backs, developing inner strength and how to be resilient in a world of non-stop change. The authors also even include information on how to create personal support groups, your personal accomplishments portfolio, and useful tactics to help adult students overcome the fear of returning to college or attending college for the first time. This is a helpful and useful guide for adult the learners to help make their college experience easier, and keep them on track for graduation and their careers.
