The author is a DJ at radio station WGBO, is host and producer of a musical television show, and is manager of public programs
at The Newark Museum. She has interviewed many musicians, hired some, known many others. This book is about how to become a working
musician, with great encouragement to become the greatest you can possibly be--musically, and as a person.
Most of this work consists of quotations or reports from interviews with musicians and people involved in the music business. At the beginning of the book, there is a list of the people quoted in the book with brief biographies. There are sections on one's development as a musician; on composing and recording; on personal growth; on putting on a
performance; and on the business of music. At the end is a self-evaluation called "Do You Have What It Takes?"
The author makes a great deal of proper attitude and professionalism in your dealings with all whom you work with or for, and kindness and responsibility toward both those who have hired you, and especially to your fans (hearers). She also includes such practical tips as how to approach people in the business, and what elements to include in your promotion kit (which you give to them).
The stories are invaluable, the encouragement great, and the inspiration magnificent. Enjoy!
