This is one of the most down-to-earth and useful books for the beginning and intermediate
freelance writer ever written.
The author himself makes well over $100,000 a year writing, so you know that he knows what he's writing about. After a section on whether being a
freelance writer is really what you want to do, he gets into the more practical aspects of writing as a life choice. He emphasizes, in particular, many markets and marketing strategies and types of writing you might not have thought about or considered seriously. He also mentions ways to not only increase your income as a writer, but also how to write more productively and increase your joy in writing as well (although hedoesn't put it in those terms directly). The lists he gives are priceless. The
suggestions he gives are very valuable. One of the first suggestions he gives is to define what you mean by SUCCESS as a writer (and in life). Do you just want your name on the cover of a book, or in a magazine or newspaper byline? Are you into an art-for-art's-sake space or frame of mind? Do you want to make a comfortable living, or just a little now and then for extras? He has suggestions for all of these situations, and more. (How NOT to get in trouble moonlighting from your full-time regular job, if you have one, is only one example of this.) He gives many examples and more suggestions, and he includes very valuable bibliographies of articles, books and Internet websites at the end of this book. It is a book you will probably want to own and refer to often.
