Polysemy-ability that a word must have different meanings. The meaning of a word can be characterized or denotative.
* Denotation: original meaning of a word, its original meaning.
Example: A stone that is on the street is very heavy.
In this case, the word stone refers to the object itself stone.
* Connotation: significance in relation to secondary meaning.
Example: You have a heart of stone.
Here the word has a meaning stone figures, or characterized, because a heart can not, in fact, be of stone. This word is used to indicate the rigidity of the person to whom the statement refers.
Synonyms - different words with same meaning.
Eg beautiful / handsome
Anton - words with opposite meanings.
Eg beautiful / ugly
Homonyms - Etmologicamente the word homonym name means equal. Refers to palvras that have some level of equality. The homonyms are:
* Homograph, or write less (
headquarters - will take the water and headquarters -
building; eye - the organ of the vision and eye - look at the verb).
* Homófonas, or with the same pronunciation (headquarters - building and leasing - the verb give; bake - cook and sew - sew)
* Ideal, or those who have written and pronounced the same (cable - for which secure the pot and graduate military)
