This is a radically innovative book on job-hunting -- not just when you
are unemployed or about to be, but when you
do (and should) want to
change. One of the points stressed in the book is that these days we
are all "hired to be fired." Like sports team coaches, we are only as
good, and as secure, as our last season -- and maybe not even that, if
and when there is an economic or industry downturn, or stock prices
need boosting. So it behooves us to be ever on the lookout for our next
job.
Besides emphasizing that it is profitable to keep looking, even the
first week we have landed a new job (subtly, subtly), he also gives
this as a part of a strategy and attitude change that puts US in charge
of our work lives. While still striving to find and fulfill our boss's
needs (the surest route to job security,
unless our BOSS gets fired),
we need to focus on the REAL PURPOSE of a job: MONEY. All the other
needs people try to satisfy in their work (with very rare exceptions)
should be satisfied in their personal lives. The more you focus on a
job as the source of money, the more money you seem to get.
There is far more in this book than I can deal with here. There are
exercises, charts and lists, as well as stories of others who have done
it, and how -- and how you can, too. Don't wait until you lose your job
(unless you already have) -- read it NOW.
