Unless you have been trying to concieve a baby for some time, a woman has relativly short time to learn what is going on
with her body during
pregnancy. This can seem a daunting task to a first time mother; however, "What To Expect When You're Expecting" makes this task easier for us by provding valuable information in an easy to understand format.
In fact, the format of the book not only makes it easy to understand, but also allows the reader to find what they are looking for fast. This is important to a first time mother who wants to know if her body is supposed to do, "that." The beginning of each chapter offers information on what to expect in the way of body changes, emotional changes, and doctor's visits. In addition, the beginning of the chapter offers infomation on the development of the fetus for that period of the pregnancy.
Special concerns can be found in a special chapter. Along with special concers there is a chapter devoted to fathers to be, illnesses and diseases while pregnant, postpartum issues, and a section for those of us who are trying to get pregnant or think we might already be with child. However, for those women looking to get a glimse inside of the bulging belly, the book is lacking when it comes to a selection of real photographs.
In fact, the black and white depictions are rather cartoonish, although they do get the point across. In fact, the book is geared more towards the pregnancy as a condition, rather than the focus being on the developing fetus. This makes the book extremely helpful for women who want to know what is going on with their bodies, but a poor choice for those who want to know what is going with the fetus.
