This book written in the 1950's by now Prof.Chinua Achebe and published by Heinemann london and also under the African Writers Series. It's a less than 230 page book on a man-Okonkwo in the days when the igbo society had started falling apart with the coming of the white man.It tells much about this man life, his rise and eventual fall right from when he refuses to heed the call not to have a hand in the death of a child. Also included are nice igbo parables, fairy tales and description of how the society and environs look like. Its a book that could keep the reader going just for the fact that he wants to know how did such a society exist and how it would have felt to be in those days even as a black messenger then.
