Black Death. Epidemics in Europe from antiquity to the present time

Book Summary by: Inkvisitor

Original Authors: Christopher Duncan; Susan Scott

"Black Death. Epidemics in the Europe from antiquity up to the modern times", is an excellent compendium of
knowledge about the disease, which decimated several times whole Europe and its "tentacle" hit other continents also.
The book was written by two authors whose interests relate to completely different fields of knowledge. The combination of a taste for history by Christopher Duncan and Susan Scott of biology, has created a book that masterfully in refuting the myths associated with the "Black Death".With accurate, even detective approach to the issue of "plague" as a scourge that consume almost the entire world, the two authors came to the historical relationship eyewitnesses freezing of blood in the veins, where the death had to be near extinction of entire villages and even cities. The Black Death, i.e. the bubonic plague, was a most terrible and most ominous murderer of all time. Appeared unexpectedly in Sicily in the year 1347, and then, before three years passed, she killed the half of the mankind of Europe. There was no rescue before her. When her storm centers consolidated in France, then harassed our continent still for three consecutive centuries. For the last time the plague collected the gloomy toll in London in years 1665-1666, where every week death in torments about six thousand people. After a few years just suddenly disappeared - just as mysteriously as appeared. Long-term examinations of authors of the discussed book which were bolstered up with original sources - with former parish registers, wills and diaries - are bringing really surprising results. As it turned out the "black death" had nothing to do with the plague. Those epidemic wasn''t relocate by rats, as is commonly believed, and writes to this day in history textbooks! It was a lethal viral disease (was ravaging human settlements in remote antiquity),very much resembling with one''s behaviourism contemporary AIDS. The worst is, however, according to the authors that the virus is more than reasonable doubt resides in hiding somewhere in Europe - and probably in the mutate form - looking forward to the favorable conditions for re-attack. And since we are now far more mobile society than was the case once, the effects of a new epidemic could be unimaginably bedrohlicher. The book was divided in two sections. First from them authorships in the majority of Duncan it is a part typically historical, second part Susan Scott is a part linking historical wefts with contemporary biological and epidemiological examinations. The book was divided in 20 chapters. In the book we will find interesting maps which superbly are illustrating the proliferation of epidemic in Europe. For those who are hungry for the knowledge about the bubonic plague, authors put the bibliography, where it is possible to find the row of the position concerning the subject matter of the "Black Death".
