In The Battle for God, Karen Armstrong takes an intelligent, historical look at the current rise
of
fundamentalism. She provides an understanding of the fundamental Muslim, Christian and Jewish backlash that occurs today and which has occurred cyclically throughout history.
While the material may appear very dry to the average reader, Karen Armstrong, as usual, weaves a wonderful story that takes us from the rise of the Sunnites in Iran, through the development of a necessary democracy in the west to the incorporation of modern Judaism. She also explains the very real necessity of fundamentalism, no matter which of the three major revealed religions it embraces.
I would recommend this book to anyone who finds a need to understand this phenomenon or who is searching for a new perception of their creator.
