The Screw tape Letters is a compilation of letters of recommendation from a
knowledgeable older devil to his nephew
Wormwood, a junior
tempter.
Wormwood’s task is to make sure that an immature man is
ill fated, and that young man has as an alternative grown to be a Christian. Uncle
Screw tape exchange among intimidating Wormwood and suggestive of income
to unfasten the “Enemy’s” increase.
The letters are, certainly, a means of assigning advice about leading a
Christian life and avoiding damnation. Scarcely any Christian
reading this volume would be unsuccessful to distinguish him in one of the
situations Screw tape proposes as a trick to guide the young man
astray. The way in which the letters are written direct to
propose strategies to keep away from or run away the devil’s traps and thus
mature in virtue.
C.S. Lewis as well uses the volume to indicate all the gifts God gives to
man, gifts, which create the usual unusual, even in the middle of
war (the book was published in 1941). Screw tape complains that
the “Enemy” has an unjust benefit in excess of the devil by asset of having
really grown to be a man, and consequently being able to know what it is
to be a human in a very individual method. These points are made delicately,
even amusingly, however no Christian could fail to spot them or be unsuccessful to find them
heartening and ready to lend a hand.
The Screw tape Letters are not completely original in their
beginning. St. Gregory the Great also wrote comparable sequences,
however his were written in Latin at the end of the sixth century.
Lewis’ mastermind lies in presenting his recommendation in an amusing arrangement
for his own time. The advice gleaned from every circumstance is
sensible in that it can be applied instantaneously and simply in the
Christian life.
The Screw tape Letters are motionless pertinent nowadays and just as much amusing to
interpret. Every Christian should read Wormwood’s correspondence at
least once.
