The Dracula Year

Book Review by: maytaylor

Original Author: Kim Newman
This abstract was translated from Anno dracula
What would happen if the Count Dracula from the Stoker's book would have decided to change his strategy and not let himself
be defeated by Van Helsing and his followers? The book is presenting a great idea given by the many lovers of the vampire literature. Dracula makes the Queen of the United Kingdom his wife, the vampires come out at light and conquer the highest places in the civil society. But not everything is going the way they should. Someone in the shadow decides to continue the work of the late Van Helsing. Someone who is killing the vampire prostitutes that work in the worst and poorest places of London called 'White Chapel'. He is killing them with a silver dagger since the silver is able to dangerously wound the dead. The name that would be given to him is Jack the Ripper. The author of the book chose to relive all the Victorian times with a lot more gothic key and locking the various elements drawn from great novels from those times. Dracula, by Bram Stoker meets Jack the Ripper and together they create the most modern versions of the vampire. Let's discover the end of Lucy and of all the protagonists from the Stokers novel. Meeting members of the famous Diogenes club from the Sherlockian memory and discover that the famous investigator is locked up in a sort of Nazis concentration camp associated with a Russian gulag and a small farm of humans for nutriment. Let’s discover that there are various kind of vampires just like Anne Rice has taught us in the adventures of her Lestat. The book is easy to be read even if you don't understand every reference, there are truly many. This is a reading strongly advised to whoever wants to read something deferent on vampires and the 'what if' novelist.
