The story starts when a writer of world renown Paul Sheldon is driving through snow valleys carrying his latest work - the
latest book about Misery, who is the title heroine. Unnfortunately, thereis an accident during the drive and Paul''s car lands in snow. Seemingly accidentally, an old woman comes. She helps Paul and takes him to her house, which is situated far beyond the city. When Paul wakes up in an unfamiliar house with his legs broken he meets Annie Wilkes who had taken care of him. It
turns out that Annie is a retired nurse and took care of him in a professional way. It also turns out, which is the most interesting, that she is his admirer as well and then the whole story begins. The book
describes the whole events taking place in the hose and, which is the most important, it describes the main character''s thoughts, his feelings towards Annie, who turns out to be mentally disordered. She is reading Paul''s unpublished book, which she doesn''t like. Stephen King describes perfectly an ordinary''s man way of thinking. The man survived the hell, had to fight with his helplessness, pain, regreted that he hadn''t died. A reader who is reading the book can feel fear which is getting bigger with every sentence. Perfect plot, and idea of the book are main advantages of the book. The film was shown on the big screen and you can admire Kathy Bates, as Mrs Wilkes, who was awarded with Oscar.
