http://www.lulu.com/content/763953 You may think this is a strange title for a horror, science fiction and fantasy collection, so perhaps I need to explain myself. Some but not all of the stories involve quicksand, and others involve vampires. One tale, Fresh Dead Flesh, has both, sort of. Some of the stories are funny, such as Remote, with its TV Remote Control searching robot that trashes two houses in its simple quest, and Found, which takes lost airport luggage queries into the space travel era.
Time travel is another recurrent theme, with one
man murdered and resurrected by the same passing time traveller in Busy Doing Nothing, or has he? In The Man Who Changed History, a time traveller tries to change the course of the English Civil War. Some other stories here also use that conflict as a backdrop. A man sells his soul to a chaos demon for victory in the war, but there is a really bizarre twist in this one. A third Civil War and horror crossover story sees carrion monsters that feed on the dead getting worried when it looks as if the conflict could come to an end – how will they feed if peace breaks out? Elsewhere, extreme telepathy drives a man insane, two naïve young travellers start climbing Everest without any climbing equipment at all only to find that they get stuck on top like kids climbing a tree and then getting vertigo, and a new sophisticated Smart Bomb asks passers by for directions to its target.
