For those of you who do not know, a somnambulist is a sleep-walker. This is not a book about sleep walking, but rather a fictional character who has become a has-been and therefore is asleep to his world. This is dark fiction at its finest with mysterious murders in grim and rainy London with circus freaks, and well, just plain freaks. Also with a dreaming poet, a Frankenstein-like experiment gone bad, killers dressed like school boys, and nearly everyone in town searching for Love, it all adds up to a stunning first novel for Barnes. This riveting page-turner should not be missed.
