The main character of King''s novel is Louis Creed, a young doctor, who moves to a sleepy town in Maine, USA. Creed
moves in to new apartment with his wife, Rachel and two children: six-year-old Elli and two-year-old Gage and also a cat, Church. Creed''s new house is a comfortable, spacious residence, close to a highway, constantlly used by trucks.
New neighbourgh of Creeds, old Jud Crandall, shows family to a pet cementary, for animals run over on the highway.
Louis Creed starts a job as a vet at university''s ambulatory. Unfortunately, just on the first day of work, a student dies on his hands. Moments after his death, student comes back to life, only to give warning to the doctor ''never cross the border, no matter how much you want it''.
Several days later, Church, Creed''s cat dies under wheels of a truck. Little Elli is devastated. Seeing this, Jud reveals a secret about the Cementary. It is placed near an old Indian burial ground, hunted by a vengeful Wendigo spirit - evil creature, which brings the dead back to life. Church is buried in this dreadful place, but the next day it comes back to Creed''s apartment. The cat looks exactly like before death, but behaves like possesed by an evil spirit.
In a fatal accident, under the wheels of a truck, dies little Gage. Devastated Creed buries him in the cursed ground. Child comes back the next dat. Possesed, ressurected Gage is on a killing spree. He kills Jud and his own mother. Then he is yet again killed by Louis. Nontheless, Creed goes to the Indian burial ground and buries his wife, Rachel, there.
The novel ends with a scene in which Louis sits in kitchen playing solitare and waiting for return of his beloved.
