Gypsies moved to a neat town of wealthy and self-contented Americans.
They weren't welcome there, but they stayed there
for a few days
anyhow. It must've been the bad luck that a well off local lawyer
wasn't careful while driving and hit an old Gypsy, who was killed.
Indeed, she had run out of a row of cars very suddenly, but the truth
is that Billy Halleck wasn't watching the road, because his sitting
next to him wife was in a mood for some love-affairs. Despite the
Halleck's indisputable fault, the well-connected lawyer wasn't
punished: the police boss didn't carry out any investigation, and his
friend, the judge, exculpated him. Everything according to law. No
surprise that the old Gypsy wasn't pleased while coming out of the
court. He even walked up to Halleck, but all he did was touching his
cheeck and sayin one word: "thinner". Since then, the lawyer's gehenna
started. He was getting thinner and thinner. He wasn't
worried at the
beginnig because he was really overweight, but he
quickly understood
that something was wrong, because he wasn't doing any excersises or
eating less. In fact he was eating even more! His family was worried
that he might have had a cancer, but the doctors didn't find any
disease and in fact, they were excited about the new phenomenon.
Opposite to them, Helleck wasn't so enthusiastic ad he didn't want to
stay in hospital as a guinea-pig. Especially because he started
suspecting that the old Gypsy had cursed him. In order to check it he
visited people who had helped him right after the car accident. It
turned out that the policeman and the judge had also some werid
afflictions...
Halleck decides to find the Gypsies and make the old man discurse him,
but nobody believes him, even his wife and friendly doctor. He has to
do it quickly, because the loss of weight is so huge, he would be able
to stay alive for only few months. A former client of exhausted
Halleck's, who became his friend, is helping him despite the suspicion
about some connections with the underworld. And the case is not going
to be neither easy nor safe.
