Dracula: The Ultimate, Illustrated Edition Of The World-Famous Vampire Play
Since 1897 when Dracula was first written by Bram Stoker there have been many books written about the
subject, but none have truly expressed themselves more than the interpretation of Dracula's original plays. Dracula: The Ultimate, Illustrated Edition Of The World-Famous Vampire Play is about the entertaining history of Bram Stoker's original version of Dracula depicted into theatrical form in various plays throughout the world. This book contains interesting facts about Dracula which includes character portrayals, interesting artistic depictions, full scripts from the original plays, and a list of infamous actors who have portrayed Dracula throughout the years since it's first theatrical performance in London in 1924. This book was written by Hamilton Deane and John L. Balderston who first brought Dracula to the theatre age and have grown popularity and praise for doing so. To many this book may seem like another copy of Dracula, but it is from from it!
In 1927, Broadway was the first theatrical venue to bring Dracula to America with movie posters that informed viewers that medical technicians were on alert for anybody who became ill from the performance. Perhaps this was because the play was believed to be a terrifying act or maybe it was because a newcomer by the name of Bela Lugosi was considered haunting to the viewers. Either way, the play was a success with two million dollars that was brought in within the twenties. In fact, Bela's performance was so mesmerizing that he was cast as Count Dracula in the 1931 movie version but was paid only thirty-five hundred dollars to play the character for seven weeks. Mind you, Bela was an extraordinary actor but he wasn't the only man to play Dracula in American theaters. Other brilliant actors to grace the American stage as Dracula were Frank Langella, Raul Julia, and Jean LeClerc. Yes, Dracula has been depicted in many ways since 1897 but none of them gave justice to the original novel as the theatrical performances interpreted in this book - a book worthy enough to scare you right out of your seat!
