Minutes to Burn

Book Review by: Redman

Original Author: Gregg Andrew Hurwitz
This is an exciting page turner.  This book will be of interest to others like myself that like survivalist fiction.
It has a premise about the smallest of viruses buried deep in the earth's core brought to the surface by well meaning scientists to measure the past experiences of our planet.   They figure that over the millions of years of our planet's history, there may have also been shifts in the earth's mantle caused by numerous volcanoes.   Tremendeous hurricanes and depletion of the ozone layer add to the misery of what is left of the population of the Southern Hemisphere.
Minutes to Burn signs are seen at many places especially at the airports to warn newcomers to the area that they had better pay close attention to their skin.  Liberal use of high numbered sun screen is a matter of survival.  The more of the skin that is covered by clothes the better.  The story is very much centered around the continuation of life by nature, even in it's most extremely dangerous manifestations of creation - a nine foot tall female insect.   The other side of that equation is man's attempt to hold on to the human gene pattern as the right of our species.
Tis is a story of attempts by nature to combine a virolent virus that changes the gene patterns of any pregnant female life form into something capable of continuing the existance of a new species of life that can live in the changed climate conditions.  U.S Navy Seals, United States and South American scientists work together to contain the horrors developing on one of the islands in the Galapagos.
I loved this story line because it reminds me of another of my favorite stories - Jurassic Park.  In both stories there is the underlying fear the creatures will escape into the general population of the world.   The consequences could be the possilble extinction of mankind.
I have found this author's story to be so compelling I plan to read his other books hoping they will be as exciting.
