The Turkish Notebook

Book Review   by:SM THOMPSON     Original Author: SM Thompson

Well you could have knocked me down with a feather duster or so my
Nanny said years ago, but I tried not to burst into uncontrolled
laughter ... I simply carried on regardless.

I was working in Istanbul at that time, and brought with me every day a Notebook ...
green in colour .. and I scribbed away dutifully without fear or
tomorrow ... and in fact I found friends did likewise ... Goono and I
went walking in Istanbul''s ancient and modern streets off to the
BookStore to buy materials for work ...

My Turkish Notebook had travelled the length and breadth of the world
thus far, and since it was bright green I was in no danger of forgetting
to write down every day a note a poem a story or a play in those
years of working full time, sometime ago.

Let me mention to you an anecdotal conversation .... which runs ...
where are you going! to Istanbul! Can you walk alone? The answer is
"No" Travel with a companion. I did and avoided that awful alone-ness
attributed to the Western writer ...

The Turkish Notebook became a Play, a Poem, A story and now
its world famous and a favourite with everyone.

Happy reading in The Turkish Note book ... keep on reading....
