Do those ugly people with terrible personalities have the rights to pursue happiness? GuGuShi,the one who's said to be the most handsome caricaturist throughout Japanese history, has written this classical comic--Horrible Youth, in which a group of ugly young fellows carry evil characteristics . All those so called ' normal' men have become supporting roles. However, behind this extreme low class funny story exists all kinds of serious, but sad philosophical issues. Instead of making it funny in a exaggerated way like the TV shows, the author tried to put it in a way to inspire readers' resonance by describing all the weid and aberrant behavior of the characters. For example, the author who is actually tall and handsome in real life, really grasps the idea very well about those who are not so good looking and are not so loving in personality. In his book, you can always see clearly that the most disgrading charateristic of man is shown vividly to the public. All the behavior in the story seem very ridiculous ,but they do exist in real life. This is , however, beyond the author's own life experience, and that's why it touches me so much. In fact, all the characters in the story have a good side in personality. And GuGuShi can really show this part in the simpliest and the most direct language while other charicaturists may use some pretty words, such as friendship, dreams, love and peace;etc, to cover the ugly side of men.And it is this honesty and truthfulness that hide behind all these mischievous behavior.
