Geeks are highly intelligent knowledge workers, involved in high
technology areas, who are considered highly beneficial, for the future of the organization. They are not necessarily in the I.T. field alone, but also biotech & pure research institutions, & other knowledge intensive work like advertising, consulting, law & architecture. Geeks are different people, their work is different, & they are not amenable to the normal methods of management. leadership & the organization; the culture, belief patterns, behaviour of the individual geeks & those working as a group; nature of the unique work done by the geeks, & its effect on their relationship with the leadership; & twelve ways a knowledge workers contributes to the organization. Part two, discusses the role & responsibilities of the geek leaders; actions required for their motivation; modus operandi of the operation of the geek leaders within their groups, & their role in dealings with outside the group; environment of their working; points to be considered for their structuring in the organization; & role of the geek leaders for making the geeks productive. Conclusion, talks about the tools used by the geek leaders, to make their work environment suitable for their working. The text is followed by The References, which gives details of 49 books & articles, for more learning about these topics, & then the Appendix gives at one place, the checklists & models, 12 points about nature of geek work; 12 points of their technical competencies; 11 ways to motivate them; & 10 ways to demotivate them etc. This book tells us, as to how to understand, & perform the leadership function for the people called geeks. It provides some basic tools, for integrating the geeks & technology into the organizations. It is intended as a guide book, for those who manage, invest or participate in technology projects, & is thus useful for the managers, project managers, human resource officials, venture capitalists etc.
