Sarah Bartlett has written an excellent learning tool for those who wish to learn how to do tarot readings for themselves and eventually others. The first section of the book is about the basics of the Tarot. It explains everything someone who has never picked up a tarot deck would want to know such as what exactly is a tarot deck and reading. She has also covered othe important aspects of the introduction to tarot reading, background, how and why it works. She then continues her introduction of the Tarot with an explanation of the two sections of a tarot deck, the Major and Minor arcanas, and finishing off with several other decks that are available.
The second section is the largest section in the book, taking each card and providing an excellent detailed explanation of the card along with beautiful full color sketches of the popular Rider-Waite Tarot deck. Most of the explanations cover the three usual occurrances of the card these are present, future and blockage positions. In addition for each card there is listed a list of key words and phrases that assist you in determining the meaning of each card. The next smaller sections cover various spreads for particular situations and other methods of learning how do develop your skills as a tarot card reader. There are spreads for learning more about a relationship, yourself, or your future. The book ends with a small section explaining numerology the possibility of using it or tratitional astrology with your readings as well as some instruction on how to adapt and even make your own spreads. The book ends with a glossary defining terms throughout the book
In addition to the very helpful explanations the photographs, artwork and diagrams make a great instruction tool for any begining tarot reader. With this book one can pick up a tarot deck and decide on a spred, lay it out, and interpret it all with the detailed explanations
