Tanit and W were engaged and were planning to start their wedded life in the country side, about fifty miles from London. Tanit’s mother had seen a well furnished house on the top of a hill, which was very well kept. When they went there they saw to all the details of the house, like the kitchen, offices and were impressed.

Tanit and W went out and sat on a stone seat facing the view across the green valley. Here they sat and planned their future for about an hour and then all of a sudden they saw a tall woman in deep mourning, very sad but attractive. She asked them why they had come. They told her that they wanted to take the house as they were greatly in love and wanted to get married.

The woman said that the others too thought that they would take the house and live there. They all were greatly in love with each other and about the age of Tanit and W but the hill did not allow them to be happy.

When Tanit asked what hill she was talking of, the woman said that she had bought the house and was told not to live there but she ignored. When Tanit asked her where she lived, the woman told that she lived nearby and all at once the tolling of bells was heard. The woman told them that the ringing of the bell was a warning sign .So they should return. W got very angry at this and they rushed into the house. Then they realized that in spite of the bright sun the woman did not cast a shadow. W was getting irritated and wanted to get out of there. As they were getting into the car someone seemed to laugh at them and the hill seemed too steep. This made W nervy and he shouted that he didn’t care for the hill or old forces and they will live in that house only.

The bells started tolling again and again and they heard voices in the air. As they neared the foot of the hill a lorry came out of no where and crashed into them. W was spot dead and Tanit didn’t remember a thing what had happened after the collision. When she regained her senses days after, she was in the hospital

Later it was found out that the ghost of the women in the garden, was the mother of another boy who too wanted to live with his wife in that house of the dangerous hill. But the couple was killed and the mother died of broken heart.

She had tried to warn them that the hill demanded a sacrifice.
