Linnet Ridgeway is the young and beutiful heiress to an immense fortune, but she has a lot of enemies. One of the people who hates her is Jackie de Bellefont whose handsome fiancé, Simon Doyle, she has stolen and married. Jackie jealously follows the newly-wed couple on their honeymoon trip to Egypt.
At Luxory a party of people, including Hercule Poirot (Belgian detective), prepare for a trip up the Nile on the river steamer the Karnak. Poirot senses the tension between Jackie, Linnet and Simon. Just before the trip he warns them to be careful.
