Choron Ki Barat (Procession of Thieves)

Book Review   by:Royalgeo     Original Author: Surender Mohan Pathak

Surender Mohan Pathak King of modern day Hindi detective and thrillers, back with his latest book Choron Ki Barat. This time Pathak definitely wanted to serve something new.Choron Ki Barat marks Sudhir’s 20th appearance in new and changed style.Sudhir is hired by his client to bring back his daughter from Singapore and been asked to stay in Nepal till further instructions and that’s where all action began. Story starts with the mystery of a murder and ends with a thrill like discovery of a lost treasure. Script of the novel is little week. There is no character in the story which can leave its impression on readers mind. Only character that can be talked about is Payal, and that is too because of her brazen boldness. Novel was more like a B grade movie where all prominent actors were missing accept Sudhir as if producer was gone out of money while completing the film. Story is more supported by bold language and words chosen.

The only charm is the writing style of the maestro. The way it is written is amazing and that’s what a book is all about. It seems initially as if the story going nowhere. It looks as if there is sudden shift of the story from murder mystery to Quest of a figurine, but it was all Pathak's skill that he was able to wrap it up as one.I am sure if this would have been written by Novice or any other writer things would have been different.

Sudhir Kohli the Philosopher Detective and the Lucky Bastard was not so lucky this time he was in defensive rather than attacking mode, and his world famous philosophical verses were completely missing which is an integral part of his character.

Other thing readers might be of the opinion that if it would have been written as thriller it would have been more delicious than ever as Sudhir's character is more demanding. They may be right on some extent but my say is it would have been worst. Now imagine Ramesh as the main character and it is in thriller genre this would have opened this way.... (Raat ko ek bje Ramesh ki neend khuli usne ek laash apne kamre mein dekhi .....Or any other way couldn’t think of.)Now this is how it really started... (raat ko achank meri neend khuli ..khamkha to na khuli ,lekin raat ko us ghadi khuli ..kis ghadi..+ aap apne khadim ko bhoole to nahin honge).

In other words when a writer writes its story with one of its established character like Sudhir, writer has to use same style of writing in same type of environment for which that character is known for.

So if Pathak would have put in some more efforts things would have five stars but this time it is only 6 out of 10 and that is again only for his writing style.
