Day of the dead begins when the whole world has been taken over by the living dead and only a small group of scientists ans soldiers have taken refuge in an underground missile silo. The only way for the human race to survive is to kill the living dead once and for all.
Fights and arguements begin to tear the groups apart. The soldiers are against scientistsand the scientists are against soldiers. Grotesque experiment are going on with the scientists that are trying to figure out information on the zombies including a zombie which has been treated to be a friend and not an enemy. His name is Bob. The soldiers begin to make a wall which has a number of cages in it to catch the zombies. On one side of the wall is the missile silo where all the survivors are, and on the other side are a number of caves where all the zombies are. Soldiers throw Two of the survivors which aren't soldiers into the cave. They run through the cave with nothing but a plank of wood. Immediately zombies chase them trying to kill them one by one. Zombies also run riot into the missile silo and start to kill the soldiers. Bob the trained zombie shoots the hell bent general and lets the other zombies tear him in half. Three survivors make a run for the helicopter which they fill up with fuel.
They luckily escape and find themselves on an island with the calender that she started with when the zombies took over the world. At the end of the book it tells us they have escaped onto an island. But it also tells us that the zombies are still running riot and that they have left alot behind from when they were in the missile silo. They all feel lucky that they are alive but also feel scared becaue they have to fight the zombies again, because they can't stop on the island forever.
