Stephanie Plum was born and raised in Chambersburg, Trenton. So naturally she knew Moses Bedemier, the Burg’s favourite candy seller.
When a rookie cop picks Mo up for carrying concealed, Vincent Plum bails out Mo. After all, what would everyone think if Vinnie just left him there to rot?
“Everyone knows Uncle Mo. Like carrying concealed is even a crime?” Connie said.

Stephanie Plum thinks she’s gonna look like a jerk for bringing Mo in when he’s skipped bail. When Stephanie reconsiders thinking, “He’s a sweet old man who sells candy, how bad can it be?” she gets into her car and drives to Uncle Mo’s shop.
No lights on. O-oh. Moses Bedemier has never closed the shop for a day.
It seems that drug dealers are turning up dead. Ex ‘ho Lula’s friend, Jackie, discovers that her pimp has run off with her car.
“I need my car! What, am I just to presume that all the horny guys have their own backseats? I don’t think so!” – Jackie.
After a bit of snooping with the help of – now blonde – Lula, Stephanie discovers that Mo has a bit more than candy in his cellar. With the help if on-again-off-again boyfriend and cop, Joe Morelli, Stephanie discovers that Mo has dead drug dealers in his basement. Things start to get worse when two men threaten Stephanie. Trying to bribe her off Mo’s trail.
Other than Mo, Stephanie has to deal with other of life’s problems. A giant chicken, bright orange hair, and when the two men threaten Rex, her hamster, Stephanie’s blood pressure rises and her face goes the colour of her hair. Watch out!
Teaming up with fitness freak, Ranger, Stephanie must track down Mo, if not to find out what’s going on, then to stop Burg residences from giving her the evil eye as she walks down the supermarket aisle.
