The Jericho Sanction

Book Review by: Harveys

Original Authors: Oliver North; Joe Musser
The Jericho Sanction “The Jericho Sanction” is the sequel to Oliver North and Joe Musser’s novel “Mission Compromised” (Broadman
and Holman Publishers, 2002). Lt. Col. Peter Newman is again thrust into the world of espionage, politics, and nuclear disasters. North’s Christian faith is much more in the forefront than in “Mission Compromised”.
The story begins with Peter and Rachel Newman’s (a.k.a. John and Sarah Clancy) new identity being discovered and leaked by a mole in the FBI. The “Clancy’s” are warned of the potential threat, but Peter is offered a chance to return to Iraq to locate three Russian nukes that are buried in the desert. Before Peter can accept the mission, General Dimitri Komulakov abducts his wife and the wife of an Israeli intelligence officer. The former Russian general wants to use Rachel to force Peter to discover the identity of the FBI mole.
Peter, through a series of political and military decisions, returns to Iraq to find the nukes before Saddam does. Bill Goode, Eli Yusef Habib and his son, Samir, lead Peter in and out of Iraq and Syria as Saddam’s sons and the General’s men come ever closer to finding the stolen warheads.
The story ends with a mixture of both successes and failures as the nukes are found, but General Komulakov escapes with one of the warheads. The action is fast-paced and riveting as the familiar characters again join forces on both sides to create a well-told tale.
North and Musser are able to portray Christians as real people with real decisions who are able to act both faithfully and with conviction. As in “Mission Compromised”, the message is not preachy, but not veiled. “The Jericho Sanction” is a must read for those who want a political/military thriller without the rude language and sex found in so many other books today.
