Kundalini - Path to higher consciousness

Book Review by: rambaba

Original Author: Pandit Gopi Krishna
Kundalini - Path to higher consciousness
This is an autobiographical account of Pandit Gopi Krishna’s personal experiences
of Kundalini awakening and its consequences.
Kundalini, according to Hindu philosophy, is the mystical power situated at the root of the spine, responsible for all human transformation and evolution, impelling one towards enlightenment when fully awake. It is traditionally represented by a snake.
A long time practitioner of meditation, Gopi Krishna suddenly finds the serpent power at the base of his spine stirred into action during one of his sessions of meditative visualization. The book goes on to describe the effects in great detail and in somewhat old fashioned language, which a casual reader might find boring at times, notwithstanding the subject. Far from being a benevolent force, Kundalini can actually cause great harm and irreparable damage to the nervous system, if improperly awakened, if the awakening takes place through the wrong channel, as in the case of the author, or if achieved prematurely. Gopi Krishna underwent tremendous physical and mental torture, a raging heat in his body slowing consuming him from inside. But, as it turned out, a remarkable intuitive experience during one of his periods of ‘attack’ showed him exactly what went wrong. He had to change the course of the surging power into the right channel, straight up his spine. He experienced an intense feeling of joy and bliss after this. Although he experienced several recurrences of his painful attacks later in his life, these were due to his negligence, most notably of his diet.
He records the changes wrought within him, the constant soft glow of light inside his head, an expanded consciousness and a feeling of inner fermentation and changes in his metabolism with admirable detail. He is convinced that this power residing within all humans, possibly all living beings, is the driving force behind evolution.
The reader is struck by the author’s sense of conviction, his sincere and straightforward account of a phenomenon that is usually couched in arcane philosophy and esoteric language in traditional literature. This thought provoking book is a must read for all.
