When I find an author that can fill my imagination and carry me away to other worlds I am always
so disappointed to read the last page – to have no more to go on to. I love
authors who not only are excellent, but also have a whole series of books that I can lose myself in one after the other – especially an author who is still living, and still writing. That is one reason I am very glad I found Anne Perry’s books.
Her
detective mysteries take place primarily in Victorian England, though she does depart from there and takes us to murders in the battlefields of France and Zeppelin bombed England. This is a series in which the detective is, of all things, an Anglican Priest! Your interest will be captured by a Victorian era police detective who wakes up not only not knowing his name, but not recognizing his own face. The book I have just read, Resurrection Row, is in a series in which police detective Thomas Pitt and his, upper class wife, Charlotte, dig out who-done-its. I was captured by the gruesomeness of the reappearance of a dead aristocrat – out of his grave – to be found in places where his family would find him – like sitting in his pew in church on a Sunday morning. Who would do such a thing? Was it because he had actually been murdered? But then, I don’t want to ruin the story for you. Read it for yourself. Find it at your local bookstore.
To top it off for me - I search for authors who don't have to use foul language and sex scenes to catch the interest of their readers. This is a clean book.
