The Chase

Book Review by: khsmith12

Original Author: Clive Cussler
I went out on a limb and purchased this book in an audio version.  It was unabridged with 10 CDs.  So I received the full
effect of the action, suspense and intrigue narrated by Scott Brick.  I was not familiar with Mr. Cussler's work but the clerk at Borders recommended it to me.
The story begins in the 1950s with the discovery of an old locomotive that is pulled from the depths of the ocean.  Dead bodies and millions of dollars are thought to be on board.  You are then transported back in time to the early 1900s where bank robberies and murders are committed. Clive Cussler created fascinating characters that you cheer for and some that you hate.  The twists and turns excite you and appear when you least expect them.  I was pleasantly surprised by the historical elements of the novel.  Fast cars were in existence in the early 1900s but still an anomaly.  As were independent working women.  The author captures the essence of the era while allowing you to forget that the tale is unfolding a century ago.
This is not one of the author's Dirk Pitt novels that I've since learned about.  However, I'm curious to read that series as well after enjoying The Chase.
