The author of this
mystery has a passionate interest in
dogs -- especially Standard Poodles. In this story, much of the main character''s life, as well as her fiance''s, and their family''s and friends'' lives revolve around these beautiful, intelligent, faithful, and loving animals, and around the
Dog shows where they, and other breeds, strut their stuff. The mystery in this case, however, is situated at the
school where the heroine, Melanie, teaches as a special-need tutor -- the exclusive Greenwich school, Howard Academy. Founded and endowed by brother and sister Joshua and Honoria Howard in the early part of the 20th century, the Academy has brought up, cared for, educated, and kept the secrets of the children of the city''s elite upper class since its founding. So when an old caretaker is found stabbed to death with a pitchfork in the gardening tool shed, more than scandal threatens. Arson of the records in school archives (where Melanie and her dog Faith are working, and nearly die) heats things up. Rumours of a mysterious
treasure many people have been clandestinely seeking makes the mystery even deeper. Meanwhile, the romance between Melanie and her fiance, Sam, is challenged by his ex-wife, hot as a firecracker, and previously unknown to Melanie. It has a very surprising ending. A great story.
