The complex but highly plausible plot running through Tess
Gerritsen's crime novel Body Double kept me completely hooked
all the way through. Pregnant
Detective Jane Rizzoli presented with a body in a car outside the home of the local
pathologist recieves a huge shock when Dr. Maura Isles returns home.
However Rizzoli's surprise is nothing compared to Maura's when she realises the body in the car has her own face. Performing the autopsy clearly disturbs her and she sets out, with the help from the detective of course, to get questions answered.
I particularly enjoyed the strong individual female characters of this novel along with the twists that so often run through Gerritsen's work. It can be extremely easy for a crime novelist to present their readers with too many gruesome autopsy facts but in this case Tess Gerritsen manages to keep it under control just enough to keep you turning the pages. This book certainly has its creepy aspect focusing more on the Queen of the Dead pathologist rather than Detective Jane Rizzoli as in Gerritsen's previous books.
Trying to track down a killer that hasn't been caught for over forty years obviously takes its toll but the shear determination of these two females just makes for unputdownable reading but at no point did it ever make me want to retrain as either a pathologist or crime detective...it's just too dangerous.
