The novel is ambientato in the period of the world war. The history is characterized by a long flash-back, in which the protagonist-narrator ripercorre its childhood. In it they are present reflexive and descriptive parts, that a lot it narrates her/it[BR] The space[BR]Her stories always develop him in the space of the island of Procida, earth in which the protagonist Arthur lives. During the history many different places are described on the island, but the narration never moves him on ampler places The characters [BR]The novel doesn''t introduce many characters. The most important are Arthur, the protagonist-narrator and his/her father Wilhelm. Character secondary they are instead Silvestre, the nanny of Arthur and his/her stepmother Nunziatella.Arthur: it is the protagonist-narrator of the novel. All the narrated stories concern its life from the birth to its departure from the island of Procida. Orphan of mother, test affection for his/her/their father, but you he she is not reciprocated in this feeling since his/her father disinterests him of him. In his/her infancy the only person that takes care of him of him is Silvestre his/her nanny, toward which Arthur tries a great love. The boy suffers for his/her loneliness, even if you/he/she tries to hide this feeling. He changes more times his/her attitude towards the characters, sometimes showing affection, sometimes jealousy in their comparisons. For instance, the in a first moment it suffers from jealousy since his/her stepmother estranges from him his/her father, subsequently test the same feeling in the respects of the same stepmother: in fact she interests only in the fratellastrosenza to mind himself. Wilhelm: the father of Arthur is a character that doesn''t leastly interest him of his/her child. In fact, already during the infancy of the boy, he prefers to undertake long trips together with his/her friends rather than to mind him. During the history, through the feelings of the boy, you/they are shown the merits of the man, to which Arthur is very affectionate. But in reality its feelings are not reciprocated.
Besides, at the end of the novel, you/they are shown other negative aspects of his/her/their father, as, for instance, the lack of fidelity towards his/her best friend.[BR][BR]The summary [BR]"Arthur''s island" it narrates the stories of a boy named Arthur. He is orphan of mother, but from when it is child it suffers the lack of his/her/their father, that spends his/her life in trips with the friends disinteresting himself/herself/itself of his/her/their child. This way Arthur lives in a sad loneliness without neither family nor friends. The only person that takes care of him of him in the infancy is Silvestre and, thanks to him, the boy receives some love.[BR]In all of his/her infancy him spends few moments with his/her/their father, but despite this it shows a great affection in his/her comparisons, considering him/it a hero of his/her fables. From child he/she dreams to depart for a trip in his/her company and so it looks for in all the ways to make to be noticed by him and to show him his/her value. But his/her father, as already said, it is absolutely indifferent toward his/her/their child.[BR]One day is announced to Arthur the arrival, on the island in which alive, of its stepmother. In a first moment he shows his/her jealousy in the respects of his/her/their father, since the woman estranges him/it from him. In a second time, however, during the absence of his/her/their father because of his/her trips, the to be him in love of his new mother. And so, in a childish attitude, it looks for in all the ways to show in front of the beloved one, but, not reciprocated, following a stolen kiss, it definitely breaks all the relationships with his/her/their stepmother. Finally one day, met on the island his/her nanny Silvestro, that had departed years to undertake the military career before, it decides to enlist with him for the war that is about to burst.And, on the ship that is bringing away it dall '''' island of Procida, Arthur decides not to turn back for forgetting a sad past.[BR][BR] [BR]
