It's the story of the dwarf Filippo, just three feet tall, with two humps on his back. Filippo
belonged to a
beautiful and very rich young woman in Venice, Margherita Cadori. Appearing together, they emphasised each other's traits: as beautiful the young lady was, the dwarf was uggly. Although spoiled and moody like all rich young women, Margherita gets along very well with the dwarf, as he enchanted her with his stories and fairy tales.
As beautiful as she was, Margherita was cruel. She seemed not to be able to love and she didn't care that men died for her. But one day she meets Baldassare Morosini and she falls for him. She is charmed by everything coming from him. When he proposes her she raises minor objections, and is really happy.
Soon, Baldassare's cruel nature comes out. He hates the dog and the dwarf equally and he ends up killing the dog merciless. The dwarf will not pass over the dog's death and in revenge he poisons Baldassare, with the price of his own life. Margherita's fate is not a happy one, either, as she cannot overcome the pain becomes mad.
