Roud
city Some
day a man called Eulogio Clárigo while walking around, stopped in front of an advertising of a travel agency catched for this announce that seemed to be made for himself, encouraging him to travel to this
place so called
round City, on the promise that there, in their curves, he would be able to find his center and himself. He entered and asked the young lady about the announce, the destiny, and the name of the city, at what she answered that he had to book his place first, in
order to get more information. The girl thougt that her answer would make him give up but instead, hi decided to book a place in the tour of a round island called Roud City. The place as its name tells, has roads and
buildings of round shapes. Mr. Clárigo ends up this place because of his resistance to accept that the circle is the perfect figure of the geometry, since he did not like absoluts or centers at all. To reach the island he had to travel first to Manila (the point of departure), being in Manila. The departure was on 14 june with 5 passengers. During the voyage there were two scales, the first one in order to recharged fuel to the hydroplane, and the second to pick up Mrs. Diuna Cardozo, the sixth passenger they needed in order to present a full list. She was a kind of jocker so she neither paid or received nor money for this, she did it with the only intention of fullfil the list, since the journey would have taken much longer without her. Mrs. Cardozo returned time after time to round city, wich atracted her with the morbidly intensity of a drug. Instead Mr. Clárigo remained reading books all the time the journey tooked. When they arrived at round city, they were conducted by an only rail magnetic train. As hi looked though the windows, he get impressed with the buildings, the agricultural sectors, -where he recognized many kinds of graminys, mixed with wooden and fruit trees- and the farms. He thought that was absurd the round shape design imposed in the island. When he registered at the hotel La Monnaie, the recepcionist as same as the bellboy recomended him to visit the Central Park. Mr. Clárigo dishearing the recomendation, went to Central Park, he was astonished by the way that the buildings were constructed and observed that the walkers had small squares, and banks te rest, and also had many coffe shops with awnings of different colours that invite one to take a small bite or a refreshment by the border of artificial small lakes. During the months of stay in Roud City, he knew Ovidio Bal, who became his best friend, with whom he shared many activities. Mr. Bal make him released from an acute stiff neck and the visions that was having after seeing himself in the scale model with half part of his body outside. It was an accident that caused him confusion and some thougts that didn’t allowed him to sleep. The idea of a round city was so absurd that he couldn’t believed it. In this place there were no flags or hymns that identified them, but they had mensual hymns, there were no political parties in order to supress corruption, no banks or finantial entities and so no poverty. Mr. Clárigo fell in
love with Leonarda, a blond, thin, woman that he met in the coffe shop calledThe island ofMoreau, where he was hypnotized by her beauty. From this day he couln’t sleep because of his thougts of her. He had erotic dreams with this woman, whom he considered a godess. The months of vacation that Mr. Clárigo spent in the Round City were extremly gratefull for him and his soul, for he found himself and a real friend –Mr. Bal- there, with him he spared good moments of recreation, anecdotes, wisdom, and also found the love of his life: Leonarda, whom with he felt that life gave him another oportunity to love and be loved. The day of he returned to Panamá was very melancholic.
