Theodor starts recounting a story to his friends by differentiating between what is called
fantastic and what is called
wonderful. Taking out his diary, where he jotted down all types of things, including notes and news from his various trips, anecdotes as well as any story which got the atention of his ''vision'' he
started to tell the story. He was staying for the summer in a citiy where he had many old friendships and where life was tranquil and relaxed and the days went by in a dreamlike state. In this city his atention was aroused by a small antique looking
house, situated between two majestic hotel buildings in the noisy centre of the city. This house
looked deserted, the
windows of the first
floor looked dark and in front of the doors and windows of the ground floor brick walls had been erected to block the entrance. At any time during the day the house seemed empty and there were several stories about it, although the baker next door told Theodor that there was a man living there to guard the house. In following wanderings Theodor started to get obsessed with the house after having seen a white arm with a dazzling brilliant on the hand in one of the windows of the first floor. It was a womans arm. This obsession started to dim his senses and reasoning to such an extent that all his thoughts were centered on the beauty that he could could see in a kind of mist through a seemingly magical mirror. Finally and a
bit worried he decides to go see a psychiatrist, who tried to help him by taking away his handmirror and ordering him to get back to his life and usual hobbies. This Theodor did, at first with a lot of work. From this point on the story developes in a sorprising and unexpected way and to tell the truth, a bit confusing. The author gets
complicated by trying to culminate this mistery/terror/fantastic story with a special touch. Recomended for a one-time read, complicated and dense.
